Primitive, the new cross stitch frontier?
People who follow my blog knows I am not primitive... well not too much! Surfing the net and browsing thru new designers blogs and sites, cross stitch related, I've noticend a blooming tendence to a new primitive style, very very simple and childish, that goes around the old sampler designs just keeping few accents from them.
Simple motives are stitched on fabrics and then "distressed", dyed, finished with flannels or wools, rough cords, rusty pins and needles.... I am still watching, because I am still trapped in a more sophisticated way to cross stitch and finish (with of course some very deep love for samplers...) and my taste have some difficult to "understand" in a correct way this tendence.
That's why I am still puzzled when I finish something "primitive": this hornbook, a kit by Barbi Hababann and Nina called Carnation, seems to me too simple. I've added a brass key, just to give it a nice accent, but my eyes are still unsatisfied... Fortunately my new wooden handpainted eggs in their nest are so beautiful and lovely that make the picture better!!
