Baaah, Baaah, Baaaaaaah!!!

Hillside Samplings... mi piace molto lo stile di Leslie Rudnicky. Un po' perchè è semplice ma non "primitiva" come designer, un po' perchè lega spesso le sue realizzazioni alle bellissime creazioni Liberty Hill, come sta facendo e ha fatto Historic Stitches.

Hillside Sammplings... I love Leslie Rudnicky style. Because she's simple but not "primitive" in her designs and because she uses to create kits with those wonderful Liberty Hill handpainted creations, like Historic Stitches creations past and present.

Ho fatto già un bel pezzo del carinissimo Folk Art Sewing Roll: si tratta di una specie di piccolo libretto per aghi con una tasca interna che si chiude con un nastro. La particolarità sono le pecorelle, fatte a punto nodino, e il tipico cervo (ma sarà un cervo poi?), a piccolo punto, dei disegni Liberty Hill e folk art in genere.

I've already stitched a nice portion of the veeeeeeery cute Folk Art Sewing Roll: it's such a little needlebook with an interior pocket, that you have to fold up and wrap with a black ribbon. What I love are those little sheeps made with french stitches and that  buck (but it's really a buck??) made one over one, proper of the Liberty Hills handpainted pieces as well.

Finalmente è arrivata la mia copia dello splendido manuale di Darlene O'Steen "The Proper Stitch". Per chi come me è ormani lanciata in "non solo puntocroce" è una specie di sacra bibbia di punti di ogni genere e tipo, ben spiegati passo dopo passo e con illustrazioni chiare e precise.

Finally I have in my hands my copy of "The Proper Stitch" by Darlene O'Steen! It's a perfect guide for me, now that I'm in the middle of my love for any kind of counted thread/cross stitch embroidery, and for anyone else who wants an exhaustive book about stitches, well written and with step-by-step texts and graphics: like Darlene says, this is "a working reference for stitchers"!

Si tratta di un compendio di tutti (o quasi... hehehe ho già notato che per esempio manca il Jessica Stitch o anche il Nun Stitch...) molti dei punti usati nei ricami che comprendono le tecniche "a fili contati": The Drawn Thread, Just Nan, Shepherd Bush, Hillside Samplings... sono solo alcuni dei designer che aggiungono al puntocroce anche i punti speciali.

In fact, this book is full of many kind of stitches (hehehe but I've discovered that for exemple the Jessica Stitch and the Nun Stitch are not included....) that most of the designers use: The Drawn Thread, Just Nan, Shepherd Bush, Hillside Samplings... they are only a few compared to all those who use special stitches!

Il libro è diviso in sezioni che raggruppano le famiglie di punti, tipo la famiglia dei punti lanciati o quelladel puntocroce, con immagini di come si eseguono i vari punti e anche delle foto con lavori esempio. Tutto è ben descritto e ben illustrato, passo dopo passo, con anche l'indicazione del dietro del lavoro per addirittura creare dei samplers "double-face"; c'è anche una bella spiegazione sull'orlo a giorno.

The Proper Stitch has different sections so the stitches are grouped by families, based on similarity of construction; there are a lot of pictures and graphics but most important is that many stitches are illustrated using pictures of Darlene designed and realized samplers: sooooo useful to see what the stitch looks alike for real! Everything is detailed and illustrated and many times you can even see that the back of your work, if you follow Darlene's hints and tips, can be as the front or even better! I've appreciated the clear explanation of hemstitch.

Bellissimi gli schemi allegati che permettono la realizzazione di tre samplers: Proper Stitch, Tudor Rose e The Pinkes Samplers.
Insomma è uno dei più bei libri che ho in assoluto, soprattutto per la grande chiarezza delle spiegazioni!

Three precious samplers patterns are included, with all the instructions and pictured steps, very detailed: Proper Stitch, Tudor Rose e The Pinkes Samplers are three masterpieces!
So what can I add... this is one of the best books I own and it will be so useful to me!
